Name(s) in local language(s):
Birkeland 3 (Topasbruddet), Birkeland, Iveland kommune, Aust-Agder fylke, Norge
A feldspar quarry in a granite pegmatite dyke on the northern slope of the hill north of the Birkeland farm. Located about 350 m north of the farm. The pegmatite was intersected by a small younger cleavelandite-quartz dike.
Bjørlykke locality nr 103.
(Comment by Ronald Werner)
It is difficult to see how Bjørlykke came to the conclusion that this quarry was located at the north slope. There is a quarry about 350 m north of the farmhouse, but it is located at the south-east slope of the Topasfjell.
Would the quarry really be located at the north slope, then the distance from the farmhouse would be significantly more than 350 m.
The description of Frigstad (1968) is in agreement with the here presented coordinates.
About 30 m north of the here presented coordinates there seems to be another potential quarry. An aerial picture from 1972 is inconclusive.
