Several pegmatites have been found in the area and very limited geological studies indicate the potential of mineral wealth.
Several mining sites are situated at the banks of Nam-peik-chaung, north of Nam-peik village. Gem mining takes place seasonally where low-to-medium quality rubies and sapphires of assorted sizes are recovered using myaw-dwin mining method. Many of the blue sapphires are silky and suitable for heat-treatment. Star rubies and star sapphires of low-to-medium quality usually between 1-2ct are frequently recovered. - Ted Themelis (2008) Gems and Mines of Mogok.
