Monte delle Basse is located in the Euganei Hills, south of Galzignano Terme.

It mainly consists of Lower Oligocene rhyolites and dacites. Skarn and calc silicate rocks also occur in contact with the intrusives. These rocks are made up of wollastonite, grossular, gehlenite, sanidine, gyrolite, hibschite, kilchoanite, pectolite, rankinite, and plagioclase, with rare sanidine xenoliths which contain cavities up to several millimetres across.

Monte delle Basse is the type locality for tazzoliite, a very rare mineral with a pyrochlore-related structure. It was found by the amateur mineralogist and collector Bruno Fassina in sanidine xenolith cavities as fan-shaped groups of pale orange, transparent, platy crystals, up to 0.4 mm long and a few µm thick, in association with a green diopsidic pyroxene and titanite (Cámara et al., 2011; Cámara et al., 2012).
