The town of Blandford was officially incorporated in 1741.

According to L. Everts (1879): The town is rich in minerals, and among the many found here may be mentioned carbonate of lime, chromate of iron, steatite, crystallized actonite, mamillary chalcedony, kyanite, rose quartz, mica, sulphuret of iron, and many others. It is related that about 1795 one John Baird, residing in the "second division," discovered lead and silver ore near the north line of the town, but, by reason of a superstitious belief that it would not be well to pursue his discoveries, refused to disclose the whereabouts of the mine, and the secret died with him, although many subsequent fruitless efforts were made to discover it.
