Mine d'antimoine, Goesdorf, Commune de Goesdorf, Luxembourg

Note: Since June 2006 an excavation has been underway at Goesdorf as part of an archaeological-mineralogical project of the National History Museum of Luxembourg, and it is not allowed to look for minerals there anymore (source: strahlen.org).

Old Sb mine, which started in the 14th century (or even Roman times), closed in 1938 (1944 according to Filella et al., 2009). Located 1 km west of the village of Goesdorf on a hill called Weissenstein ('white stone').

New data based on the Lapis article by Bakker & Kolitsch (2009) and Philippo & Hatert (2018). The first evaluation of the Goesdorf deposit was published in 2007 in Ferrantia, number 49. This study was based on samples collected from mine dumps. In 2018, Philippo & Hatert investigated three antimony veins located directly inside the mine; these analyses allow us to better understand the mineralogy and genesis of this ore deposit. Mineralogical analyses indicate the presence of Pb-Sb-sulfosalts (fülöppite, plagionite, robinsonite, and geocronite) and ullmannite, as well as secondary Sb minerals (brandholzite, coquandite, klebelsbergite, and peretaite).
