Name:
Named in honor of Ho-Kwang (David) Mao (毛河光) (b. 18 June 1941, Shanghai, China), geologist at the Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution for Science. He is an expert in high pressures and temperatures, and has repeatedly achieved the highest laboratory pressures in the world. Among many honors, he was awarded the 2005 Roebling Medal. The species davemaoite is also named after him.
Dimorph of:
Maohokite was formed from subsolidus decomposition of ankerite Ca(Fe2+,Mg)(CO3)2 via a self-oxidation-reduction reaction at impact pressure and temperature of 25–45 GPa and 800–900 °C.
