Named in honor of Rustam Gumirovich Yusupov (born 1935), a prominent Uzbek mineralogist and a curator at the Geological Museum, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Dimorph of:
A monoclinic dimorph of elpidite (orthorhombic). Chemically similar to terskite, catapleiite, gaidonnayite, hilairite, keldyshite, natrolemoynite, tumchaite, and some other species.
