The bounding of the ore cluster is seen by the E–W trending Huangzhuguan fault to the north and the Rentushan–Jiangluo fault to the south, and the main framework of the ore cluster is the Wujiashan anticlinorium. The strata in the Xicheng ore cluster are mostly of Devonian age with several Triassic, Jurassic, and Tertiary strata, as well as Quaternary sediments. The Devonian strata almost strike E–W, including meta-sandstone, quartz schist, and marble of the Lower Devonian Wujiashan Formation (D1w); bioclastic limestone, meta-sandstone and phyllite of the Middle Devonian Anjiacha Formation (D2a1); bioclastic limestone and sericite quartz-schist of the Middle Devonian Xihanshui Formation (D2a2); and sandstone, limestone, and phyllite of the Upper Devonian Dongshan Generation (D3d). The only exposure of Triassic strata is in a small area, with faulted contacts with both Devonian and Jurassic strata. It mostly includes calcareous slate and siltstone breccia. The Rentushan–Jiangluo fault controls the south boundary of the Jurassic strata.

The Xicheng Ore Field, with proven Pb + Zn reserves exceeding 17 million tons, is the third-largest lead–zinc ore field in China. It is located in the western part of the West Qinling metallogenic belt.

The region hosts numerous large to extremely large lead–zinc deposits, with proven resources reaching approximately 18 million tonnes, and inferred resources could reach 25 million tonnes. Major deposits include Dengjiashan (0.54 million tonnes, 6.27% Zn, 1.31% Pb), Changba (3.80 million tonnes, 5.16% Zn, 1.38% Pb), Lijiagou (3.13 million tonnes, 8% Zn, 1.29% Pb), Luobao (1.05 million tonnes, 4.55% Zn, 1.61% Pb), and Bijiashan (0.63 million tonnes, 4.88% Zn, 1.2% Pb). Furthermore, nearly 40 small and medium-sized lead–zinc deposits have been identified in the area, including Dujiaying, Yeshuihe, Guanzigou, and Miaogou. In the Xicheng Pb–Zn ore area, there seems to be an inseparable relationship between organic mineralization and the content of total organic carbon, with the organic carbon content being higher closer to the ore body. Recent studies on the Xicheng ore concentration area indicate that its deposit type remains a sedimentary exhalative (Sedex)-hydrothermal brine (non-magmatic) overprinting and reworking deposit, rather than a late metamorphic–deformational orogenic (magmatic–hydrothermal-influenced) type.
