Metasedimentary manganese ore. Mine now closed.

The Ananai Mine has many deposits around Ananai-gawa (Ananai river).

All of these deposits are in Nankoku City and the neighbouring Kami City, Kochi Prefecture.

Some of the mining tunnels are sunk in the lake of Ananai dam.

In Japanese articles, any deposit which has variations of yielded manganese minerals just like Ananai mine is called "Ananai-type deposit" originated from this mine name.

Characteristics of Ananai-type deposit: mainly Hausmannite and manganese-carbonates in pale brown, partially Braunite, low-quality Rhodochrosite in pale-yellow, pale-beige or white.
