According to IMA Proposal 25-B (2026), ekanite is a stilpnomelane with minor Mn.

Name:
Named and first decribed by Igelström 1865 from the Brunsjö Mine (Brunnsjö Mine), Grythyttan, Hällefors, Västmanland, Sweden.
Obsolete name for a Mn-rich stilpnomelane (IMA Proposal 25-B (2026)); the name was already discredited in 1954.

The Mica Subcommittee (1998) regarded this as possibly Smectite.
