Superlarge Fe-V-Ti and minor Cu-Ni-(PGE) deposit, hosted in a gabbroic layered mafic intrusion. A series of N-S-trending strike faults split the
intrusion into seven blocks from NE to SW, these are named Zhujiabaobao, Lanjiahuoshan, Jianbaobao, Daomakan, Gongshan, Nongnongping, and Nalaqing.
Located in the most southerly part of Pan-Xi rift zone.

The Panzhihua deposit is the one of the largest Fe-Ti oxide deposits in the world and holds 10,000 to 20,000 tons of Co resource with grades varying from 0.01 % to 0.02 %. The Panzhihua intrusion is composed mainly of gabbro and hosts Fe-Ti oxide ore bodies in its lower part. The Fe-Ti oxide ore of the Panzhihua Fe-Ti oxides deposit could be classified based on the structure: massive ores, densely disseminated ores, moderately disseminated ores, sparsely disseminated ores and laminated ores. The massive ores primarily consist of minerals from the titanomagnetite-ilmenite series (60 ∼ 90 %), with minor occurrences of clinopyroxeneclinopyroxene (0 ∼ 20 %), olivine (0 ∼ 10 %), and plagioclase (0 ∼ 10 %). The densely disseminated ores comprise minerals from the titanomagnetite-ilmenite series (45 ∼ 60 %), with minor occurrences of clinopyroxene-clinopyroxene (0 ∼ 25 %), olivine (0 ∼ 15 %), and plagioclase (0 ∼ 15 %). The predominant structures in the massive and densely disseminated ores are irregularly granular mosaic texture, with occasional presence of sulfides such as pyrrhotite, as well as later oxides like hematite. The moderately disseminated ores primarily consist of minerals from the titanomagnetite-ilmenite series (25 ∼ 45 %), with occurrences of clinopyroxene-clinopyroxene (25 ∼ 45 %), plagioclase (10 ∼ 15 %) and olivine (0 ∼ 10 %). The sparsely disseminated ores comprise minerals from the titanomagnetite-ilmenite series (15 ∼ 25 %), with occurrences of clinopyroxene-clinopyroxene (35 ∼ 50 %), plagioclase (15 ∼ 25 %) and olivine (0 ∼ 10 %).
The Panzhihua gabbroic intrusion has been divided into several zones from top to base including Upper zone (Uz), Middle zone (b) (Mzb), Middle zone (a) (Mza), Lower zone (Lz), Bottom zone (Bz) and Marginal zone (MGz). It's important to note that a ten-meter-thick layered intrusion comprising coarse-grained pegmatite gabbro and heavily altered ultramafic rocks have been recognized at the bottom of the Zhujiabaobao open-pit. The metallogenic phases of the Panzhihua Fe-Ti oxide deposit have been divided into magmatic, hydrothermal, and epithermal phases. The hydrothermal phase was further subdivided into two stages: the pyrrhotite (II)-linnaeite stage and chlorite-pyrrhotite (III)-pyrite stage followed by a supergene stage.
