Named in honor of Vagn Fabritius Buchwald (23 June 1929 Fredriksberg, Denmark - ) professor in the Department of Metallurgy, Danmarks Tekniske Højskole, Lyngby, Denmark. He is an expert on meteorites and wrote several books including Handbook of Iron Meteorites (1975). He famously discovered the 20 ton Agpalilik meteorite in Greenland in 1963, and discovered five new minerals (roaldite, carlsbergite, akaganeite, hibbingite, and arupite).
