Formula:
CoAl2O4
Member of:
Second natural Co-Al phase after wupatkiite.
Al analogue of cochromite; also Co analogue of spinel, hercynite, galaxite.
As a composite inclusion in a greenish-blue sapphire (Guo et al., 1994). The largest individual is 150 x 250 microns in diameter. Also as small euhedral crystals. Associated with a glass phase.
Electron microprobe data (one of 16 analyses): TiO2 0.67, Al2O3 49.61, Cr2O3 11.57, FeO 9.55, MgO 6.04, CoO 22.38, total 99.82 wt%, corresponding to (Co0.523Mg0.262Fe0.233)Σ1.018(Al1.703Cr0.266Ti0.015)Σ1.984O4 (Guo et al., 1994).
