Named by Pete J. Dunn, Donald R. Peacor, Richard C. Erd, and Robert A. Ramik in 1986 for the city of Örebro, Sweden, 60 km southeast of the type locality of Sjö Mine.
Type Locality:
Mineral is close to franciscanite and welinite. Chemically resembles scorticoite and UM2003-37-SiO:HMnSbZn.
