Kraubath an der Mur is a municipality in the district of Leoben in the Austrian state of Styria.
The name of this place is mentioned many times in the 11th-13th century charters, and it is written regularly as "Chrowat", which is the toponym variant of the name "Croat".
Kraubath an der Mur lies in the central Mur valley between Leoben and Knittelfeld.
Large ultramafic body (28 km²) of the middle Austro-alpine unit (Paleozoic age), mainly consisting of dunite and serpentinite.
Since the early 19th century, this complex has been worked for chromite (1855-1881, for the production of pigments) and for magnesite (since about 1850).
Ancient galleries, adits, and dumps of the mines are still present south of Kraubath (Mitterberg and Fledelberg mountains, Augraben) and southeast of Kraubath (Sommergraben). At Gulsen, Preg (part of St Lorenzen bei Knittelfeld) and in the Lobminggraben (near St Stefan ob Leoben), the serpentinite is quarried to produce gravel for road and railway construction.
Note on the mineral list: Kollegger et al. (2008) also mention several unidentified tiny PGE phases, including a Pt-Fe-phase.
