Köppen climate type:
The Chengba Cu-Zn skarn deposit is hosted mainly by the Upper Jurassic Duodigou Formation and the Lower Cretaceous Linbuzong Formation. The Duodigou Formation, dominated by limestone, is the principal ore host, whereas the overlying Linbuzong Formation consists mainly of sandstone. Intrusive contacts caused contact metamorphism, forming marble in the Duodigou and hornfels in the Linbuzong. The magmatic intrusions in the mining area are dominated by granitoid rocks, including granodiorite porphyry and porphyritic granodiorite, with minor diorite occurring in the eastern part of the deposit. Over 20 economic orebodies have been identified, mainly in the western part of the deposit. They occur as stratiform, vein-like, and lenticular bodies, hosted in skarn and related contact zones, with sandstone in the hanging wall and limestone in the footwall.
Skarn, sulfide, and carbonate hydrothermal alteration are widespread in the Chengba Cu-Zn skarn deposit. Field and petrographic evidence indicate four paragenetic stages of mineralization: prograde skarn, retrograde skarn, quartz–sulfide, and carbonate.
