The Mahoney Mining Area covers approximately 150 to 200 acres located at the northwest corner of the Tres Hermanas mountains. The area consists of scattered small underground mines and prospects mostly in Section 28 but extending north into Section 21. Sulphide ores, now deeply oxidized occur in veins and as replacement bodies in late Paleozoic carbonate rocks. One of the few places where willemite was abundant enough to be a major ore mineral.
Deposit: Ore is found in mantos and fissure fillings. Seven patented claims mineral survey numbers 155 and 2168 covering 134.64 acres. Two unpatented claims. Discovery year: 1880's
