Heavily oxidised Mn-rich siderite deposit located NW of Leoben and E of St. Peter-Freienstein, on the SW slope of the Bärenkogel.
Hosted in phyllitic rocks of the greywacke zone ('Grauwackenzone').

Known especially for nice secondary apatite (white, globular or in sprays) and jarosite, found in (dangerous) underground workings.

In 1837, A. Schrötter named an unknown species "untheilbarer Opalinallophan", which was renamed in 1839 by E.F. Glocker to "Schrötterite".
In 1879, R. Helmhacker described it again as a mixture of halloysite and variscite.
In 1962, H. Meixner discovered that it is a mixture of crandallite and bolivarite.

Another species was named "delvauxene" by K. von Hauer in 1854.
J.D. Dana analysed it again in 1868 and renamed it "bořickýite".

Around 1900, F. Cornu worked with material from here and named the mix of species he worked on "leobenite".

In 1962, H. Meixner found natrojarosite for the first time in Styria.
