A single carbonaceous chondrite stone from the estate of an unusually well-travelled mining engineer has recently drawn extra attention because it appears to be the least aqueously altered of any CM carbonaceous chondrite (As of early 2015 ~ 500 labelled pieces from perhaps as many as 300 separate falls had been listed at the Meteoritical Bulletin Database.)
It has been classified as an overall CM2.7 member of the Mighei-like carbonaceous chondrites. However, some small regions are very fresh and have been designated as CM2.9. While covered with a very fresh fusion crust some minimal limonite stains due to terrestrial weathering are present. Like all CM chondrites, in both chondrules and matrix Paris contains abundant phyllosilicates and other aqueously altered phases. Matrix accounts for ~ 55vol% of the meteorite. These dominant lithological features are accompanied by important refractory Ca-Al-rich inclusions (CAIs), unusual organics [pre-solar?], and remnant Fe-Ni metal. Much of the current discussion concerns whether CM chondrites should be classified according to a two-fold 'type' schema that includes both hydrous alteration and oxidation-reduction status which — it is argued — are not consistently encompassed in the current classification one-dimensional 'metamorphic' types.
The main mass is at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. The original source of the meteorite is unknown.
