Owens Valley is a N-S trending valley and is the channel for the Owens River. It lies between the White and Inyo Ranges in the East and the Sierra Nevada in the West. The floor of the valley lies at about 4,500 feet (ca. 1,372 m), with surrounding peaks reaching up to over 14,000 feet (ca. 4,267 m).
