Gisement de cuivre, Osenbach, Rouffach, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France
Copper-bearing quartz vein, hosted by sandstones. The main ores were chalcopyrite and argentiferous tetrahedrite, accompanied by tenorite and native copper.
"(Coming from Soultzmatt). Southeast of Colmar on the N83, then the D18B. At the mineral springs continue on the D18B which turns right. One will find an old mine with azurite, malachite, and quartz." [Belot, 1978]
Mining activities started in 1498 and ceased in 1520. There appear to have been at least three mines, their names were "Unser Lieben Frau Fundgrube", "Haus Zabern" and "Zum Vergüldt Esel". During the 16th century, the leases were taken over by various persons, but their attempts to revive the mines remained unsuccessful.
