Named in honor of Yuri Borisovich Marin (Юрий Борисович Марин) (b. 2 August 1939, Leningrad, USSR), Russian mineralogist, petrologist and specialist in studies of ore deposits. He was awarded the 2016 A. E. Fersman Prize and is a past president of the Russian Mineralogical Society.
