Name:
Named in honor of Thomas Nash Walthier (1922/23 - 1990), geologist with St. Joseph Minerals Co., who played a significant role in the exploration of the El Indio and Tambo mining districts, Coquimbo region, Chile.

Not to be confused with waltherite (now walpurgite).
