Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite

Basalt quarry. It mainly operated from about 1922 to 1954 and for a short period in the 1980s. First geologically described by Fuchs (1959). The minerals have been subsequently described by Henstschel (1973, 1978, 1982).

Nepheline-basanite with xenoliths of middle Devonian limestone and dolomite. Zeolite mineralizations in cavities of basalt contacting thermo-metamorphic dolomite, as well as Mg-rich mineralizations inside the xenoliths.
Located 1.2 km NNW of Zilsdorf and about 4.5 km east of Hillesheim.

The Arensberg is not only a quarry. It is also a location of historical interest with traces of Roman settlements, one of the oldest churches in that area, the Arnulphus Chapel, with a cemetery, and a (small) medieval castle. Also, a millstone quarry operated there. All the historical buildings near the top were removed by the quarry operation in the 1920s. Today it is a tourist attraction, and the quarry is a "crater" for tourists. Due to the quarry, the mountain lost ~28 m of height.
