Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Limousin
"(Coming from Évaux-les-Bains). Northeast of Évaux on the D996. Turn left in the bend at the junction with a small road. (Gold-bearing) arsenopyrite and pyrite." [Belot, 1978]
A gold mine with 1 kg Au / ton of ore. Mined between 1905 and 1956. Rehabilitated 2010-2011.
Gold is present as small patches (about 30 microns long) in arsenopyrite hosted in quartz veins.
Arsenopyrite forms a crust of small crystals on lamellae of pyrrhotite replaced by pyrite and marcasite. These sulfides are disseminated in a quartz matrix.
Le Châtelet's ore also shows chalcopyrite, berthierite, stibnite, pyrite (big crystals), with late dolomite and calcite.
