Mina de Minancos, Barrancos, Barrancos, Distrito de Beja, Portugal
Inactive Cu mine (1885 - 1932?). Minancos was the first Cu concession (dated 1877) in the Barrancos mining area.
The Minancos Mine, located about 1 km from the town of Barrancos, has been inactive since the early 20th century (1932?), either due to the depletion of ore or a decline in demand for iron, copper, silver, and some gold, among other non-precious minerals. Records indicate that 1,187 tons of ore were extracted from this mine between 1885 and 1932 (?), the date of the last known records.
The mine's buildings are now almost entirely in ruins—the last residents abandoned their homes between 1968 and 1973.
