Mazarrón 2 is a small ship (8.15 m long × 2.20 m beam and a minimum depth of 0.9 m) built in wood, whose hull is almost entirely conserved. The ship carried a cargo of 2800 kg of lead ingots, along with various objects that witnessed life on board (e.g., a stone hand mill, a basket of sparto grass, and remains of animal bones). A wooden anchor with lead stocks close to the hull is considered the oldest example of this type of anchor throughout the Mediterranean. These findings document shipbuilding and shipping routes in the first half of the 1st millennium BC. They are also a testimony of the exploitation of metals by the Phoenicians in the Iberian Peninsula.
