A famous granite pegmatite locality which belongs to the Araçuaí Pegmatite District, Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province.

Virgem da Lapa is a Brazilian municipality located in the northeast of the state of Minas Gerais. Its total area is 871 km² (336 sq mi). The city belongs to the mesoregion of Jequitinhonha and to the microregion of Araçuaí. It became a municipality in 1948.

Neighboring municipalities are Rubelita, Coronel Murta, Araçuaí, Berilo, José Gonçalves de Minas, and Josenópolis. The distance to Belo Horizonte is 716 km (ca. 445 mi). The distance to the nearest major population centre, Araçuaí, is 38 km (ca. 24 mi).
