The Nanyangshan pegmatite field hosts more than 80 pegmatite veins / dykes, with more than 50 of them hosting rare metal mineralization and 11 hosting economic concentrations of Li. The pegmatite veins have widths ranging from below 1 m to nearly 10 m and lengths ranging from dozens of meters to 200 m. They intrude into dolomite marble, diopside marble and diopsidite, as well as plagioclase-amphibole schist and biotitie schist, of the Qinling Group.

The Nanyangshan area can be divided into the country rock zone, intermediate zone and core zone. The wall rocks consist mainly of amphibibolite and are locally observed in the intermediate zone. Black tourmalines (Tur B) are distributed in the intermediate zone whereas pink tourmalines (Tur P) occur in the core zone. The main economic minerals in the Nanyangshan pegmatite district include spodumene, lepidotite, beryl, cassiterite and columbite. Abundant spodumene crystals were often observed in the pegmatite. Locally, the spodumene grains in the Nanyangshan pegmatite are large, up to 40 cm in length and 5 cm in width.

The Nanyanshan pegmatites have been referred to as a district, mining district, deposit and field. It is suggested that the term field best describes the pegmatite occurrence.
