Epithermal deposits in rhyolites and dacites.

Winstanleyite has been confirmed by chemical and microprobe analysis:
many thanks to Dr. Jochen Schlüter, curator of Hamburg Museum (Germany) for having identified and studied the mineral(s). (Note by M. Dini).

The coordinates are based upon a map in Bissig et al. (2001). The satellite image at Google Maps shows signs of human activity in the area around the coordinates.

The satellite images on Google Maps clearly show that there has been a lot of activity in this area. However, it is not possible to see even one single truck. There seems to be a barrack or whatever at -29.746613970924297, -69.96436223493855. Seemingly, at the time this image was taken, there was no active mining going on. The mine pictures that are shown here are just randomly chosen, and it seems very difficult to differentiate between the different sections of what is called the Tambo mine (Ronald Werner, Feb 2021).

Geochronology

Mineralization age: Cenozoic : 11.10 ± 1.46 Ma to Ma

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
