The prefix 'meta', indicates a lower hydration state of tamboite.
Closely related to tamboite, which is a trihydrate equivalent of metatamboite; chemically somewhat similar to poughite. The hydroxytellurate group in tamboite and metatamboite seems to be unique among minerals.
