Most of the Machangqing Mine area is located in Midu County.
The Machangqing deposit is a porphyry Cu-Mo deposit with skarn and epithermal Cu, Mo, Fe, Au and Pb-Zn mineralization. The ore reserve is estimated to contain 39 Mt Cu at 0.64% and 56 Mt Mo at 0.08%. The mineralized zone comprises five NE-trending ore segments, namely Shuangmacao, Baoxingchang, Luandongshan, Rentouqing and Jinchangqing.
The Machangqing Cu-Mo deposit is composed of three types of mineralization: Fe-Cu-Mo skarn (Luandongshan and Baoxingchang), epithermal Au-Pb-Zn (Jinchangqing, Rentouqing, and Shuangmacao), and porphyry Cu-Mo (Baoxingchang and Luandongshan). Nine orebodies (I to XI) were delineated at Baoxingchang, among which orebody I is the largest. These orebodies are all lenticular or vein-type. Orebody I (0.89–140 m thick) strikes ENE and extends up to 350 m down-dip (20–40°). The Cu-Mo ores occur mainly as quartz stockworks/veinlets, and fine-/medium-grained disseminations and aggregates of bornite, chalcopyrite, and minor enargite. The high-grade ore (avg. 0.41 % Cu) is mainly hosted in the strongly potassic-/propylitic-altered granite porphyry.
porphyry-style alteration/mineralization at Machangqing comprises four stages (I to IV): (I) Quartz with minimal ore content, sometimes containing K-feldspar-, biotite-, pyrite-, and magnetite veins; (II) early-ore quartz-chalcopyrite-pyrite veining with disseminated sulfide mineralization, associated with propylitic alteration; (III) late-ore quartz-polymetallic sulfide (chalcopyrite, molybdenite, and pyrite) veining associated with phyllic alteration. These veins have less chalcopyrite than those from stage II; (IV) Post-ore, straight calcite ± pyrite ± quartz ± epidote veining, which cut stage I to III veins/veinlets. Post-ore supergene alteration (avg. 40 m thick) has formed limonite, hematite, atacamite, malachite, and azurite above the hypogene orebodies.
