Altered-rock type gold deposit.
Mined by the Gansu Zhongxin Mining Co. Ltd, the Laodou deposit has a proven reserve of > 20 t Au, with an average grade of 3.8–5.5 g/t. The metasedimentary rocks in Laodou, belonging to the Lower Permian Daguanshan Group, form a complex suite and vary from hornfels and marbles to argillaceous slates and polymictic conglomerates with decreasing depth.
Wall-rock alternation is universal in the Laodou deposit, and the assemblages of altered minerals and replacement textures indicate four stages of hydrothermal alteration: (1) Early alteration assemblages of K-feldspar, tourmaline, biotite and quartz associated with quartz diorite porphyry and breccia; (2) subsequent sulfidation (arsenopyrite and pyrite), sericitization, silicification and tourmalinization; (3) late alternation zones comprised of stibnite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, smokey quartz and tourmaline overprint the earlier alternations; and (4) the final stage alteration characterized by carbonates.
