Las Herrerías is a village located in the municipality of Cuevas del Almanzora, in Almería province, Andalusia, Spain. Las Herrerías is located 89 km northeast of Almería.

The site of Las Herrerías was an important mining centre, active over several centuries. At the time, it was the most significant mining area of Spain for baryte.

The mines are located practically in the town of Las Herrerías which was created around them. The most significant one, the large open pit exploitation called Santa Matilde, has currently practically disappeared due to backfilling.

Mineralisation consists of Fe and Mn oxides, sulphides, native silver and baryte primarily with an arrangement in beds, veins, pipes, and dissemination zones including marine sedimentary materials of Miocene age.

The mineralised zone forms a somewhat elevated structure defined by a series of faults and also with an interior network of faults in the form of a horst.

The genesis of the deposit is related to submarine hydrothermal processes (black smoker) which deposited the mineralisation in the form of beds and fumarolic structures (pipes), the network of faults being the way of escape of the fluids. This process apparently would be connected with the location of a sub-volcanic dome located just below the sites.

The site is famous for specimens of native silver (varieties rich in mercurykongsbergite and arquerite).
