Skarn and porphyry copper-lead-zinc deposit. The porphyry ore bodies are hosted in a super-shallow granite porphyry intrusion, whereas the skarn ore bodies occur in overlying dolomite and dolomitic limestone within the contact zone.
The Cunqian Cu polymetallic deposit is the largest Cu polymetallic mine in northwestern Jiangxi Province within the QHB, in the hinterland of South China. It contains ∼43.6 Mt of ore grading 0.75% Cu (∼185,700 t), 1.46% Pb (∼145,600 t), 3.92% Zn (∼372,600 t), >32% magnetite (∼35 Mt), and 3.89 g/t Au (∼371 kg). The stratigraphic sequences in the Cunqian Cu polymetallic deposit comprise sericite-quartz phyllite, quartz schist, metamorphic sandstone, and siltstone of the Neoproterozoic Yifeng Group; limestone and dolomitic limestone of the Carboniferous Huanglong and Chuanshan formations; Permian chert- or asphaltene-bearing limestone and coal-bearing sandstone; Triassic pebbly conglomerate and coal-bearing clastic rocks; Cretaceous sandstone and conglomerate, and several meters of unconsolidated Quaternary sediments. Skarn orebodies are predominantly hosted in the carbonate sequences of the Huanglong and Chuanshan formations and locally occur as endoskarns within the granite porphyry, with minor vein-type or vein-disseminated occurrences in the Yifeng Group metamorphic rocks and the granodiorite porphyry.
Mineralization at Cunqian can be divided into the following six stages: (1) prograde skarn, (2) retrograde skarn, (3) Fe oxide mineralization, (4) Cu sulfide mineralization, (5) Pb-Zn sulfide mineralization, and (6) calcite vein stages.
