Sedimentary exhalative (SEDEX) Pb-Zn deposit, hosted in the upper part of the Mesoproterozoic Ca'ertai Group and consisting of several bedded and stratiform orebodies. The main host rocks are carbonaceous and silty dolomite and black carbonaceous slate. The orebodies are folded with host rock and in the hinges of folds, the bodies are thickened and the grade is higher. The ore minerals occur in layers, masses, disseminations, and laminae.
The deposit area forms a NE-trending belt of several ore bodies, about 7 km long and 1-1.5 km wide.
The Jiashengpan deposit contains 1.68 Mt Zn at an average grade of 3.95 % and 0.19 Mt Pb at an average grade of 1.35 %. Abundant massive pyrite is also mined as a sulfur resource. Earlier studies interpreted Jiashengpan as a Proterozoic sedimentary exhalative (SEDEX) deposit formed during rift development (Lang and Zhang, 1987, Peng et al., 2000, Peng and Zhai, 2004, Fu, 2010), whereas structural studies emphasized the role of thrusting and deformation in the formation of the present high-grade Zn–Pb orebodies (Niu et al., 1990). Zhong (2014) proposed a multistage model in which early low-grade stratabound Zn–Pb enrichment was followed by a later structurally controlled hydrothermal mineralizing event that formed the economic Zn–Pb orebodies.
The regional basement consists of Archean high-grade metamorphic rocks, represented by the Wulashan Group in the Langshan area and the Wutai Group in the Zhaertai area. The basement is unconformably overlain by Proterozoic sedimentary–volcanic sequences deposited during regional extension and basin development. The main Zn–Pb orebodies are hosted by carbonaceous dolomitic marlstone of the Agulugou Formation. The host rocks consist mainly of low-grade metamorphosed marlstone, siltstone, sandstone, and dolomite. Rhythmic interlayers of metamorphosed marlstone, clastic rocks, and dolomite are common, and small stromatolites are locally preserved in dolomite. The ore-hosting rocks are commonly dark grey to black and rich in organic matter.
Jiashengpan is a large Zn-dominant Zn–Pb deposit that also contains abundant massive pyrite ores mined as a sulfur resource. Reported reserves include 1.68 Mt Zn at an average grade of 3.95 %, 0.19 Mt Pb at an average grade of 1.35 %, and 46.28 Mt S at an average grade of 22.96 %. The main Zn–Pb orebodies form a NEE-trending, north-dipping ore belt. Most orebodies are stratiform, and others are lenticular or vein type and ore thickening commonly occurs near fold hinges. The orebodies consistently dip northward and have attitudes similar to those of the F1 thrust fault and related north-dipping structures.
