The three type locality minerals, orthominasragrite, anorthominasragrite and bobjonesite, were found in a coal-clad, pyritiferous, silicified tree in the Triassic-age Shinarump conglomerate in the North Mesa Mine.

The main North Mesa mine is accessed by the No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 7 adits. However, the workings have collapsed in many areas, making it no longer possible to access certain areas of the workings.

The North Mesa 9 and 10 mines were not connected to any of the other mines and can each be considered separate from the main North Mesa mine.
