After the area of the famous Slyudyanka geological site/quarry, Russia, the type locality. The species was earlier referred to as earlier described as “triclinic lazurite”.
A very unique mineral: the first species with the hexasulfur moiety (likely not a hexasulfide, as the moiety is neutral). One of very few minerals bearing CO2 in their structure.
The structure contains two types of sodalite cages in a ratio of 3:1. The first type contains only SO42– anions and extra-framework cations. The second type contains only neutral molecules (S6, CO2, H2O, and minor S4).
