Name:
For Professor Mahmud Tarkian (1941-), specialist of ore microscopy of the University of Hamburg, Germany, who first described the synthetic material and determined its structure.
A rhenium sulfide with a spinel-type structure.

One of a very few Re-dominant minerals; compare dzhezkazganite and, e.g., rheniite, rhenium, and 'UM1986-51-S:Re'.
