Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

Commodities (Major) - Iron
Deposit Type: Secondary Enrichment
Development Status: Past Producer
Deposit Model: 241: Superior Fe (BC name is Lake Superior & Rapitan types iron-formation)
Host Rock: Iron Formation

A group of iron mines working Young's orebody of the Riverton Iron Formation. The Bengal mine (Verona Mining Co.) operated from 1913 to 1944, shipping 5.5 million tons. The Tully (Corrigan McKinney Steel Co.) operated from 1910 to 1926, serving up to 1.2 million tons. From 1949 through 1950, the two mines were combined to become the Bengal-Tully by the Hanna Iron Ore Co. and shipped 0.2 million tons. Finally, in 1953, new land was added (NW-SW Sec. 31 T43N R35W), a new shaft was added, and the complex was renamed Cannon. 4.8 million tons were shipped through closure in 1963. Much of the ore was manganiferous, particularly that taken from the Bengal property. The geology of this area is poorly understood due to facies differences and due to severe structural crumpling.

The property description is as follows:
Bengal, N1/2-SE Sec. 36 T43N-R35W
Tully, S1/2-SE Sec. 36 T43N-R35W
Cannon addition, NW-SW Sec. 31 T43N-R35W
