Houtenbek 194 JR farm is located about 42 km from Pretoria and some 200 m south of the Pretoria-Marble Hall road on the R573.

Pits and trenches within an area of 100 by 300 m expose steeply dipping pipe-shaped breccia bodies of Bobbejaankop-type granite in the Bushveld acid rocks and the Transvaal Supergroup. Molybdenite was mined from one such pipe-shaped ore body and the largest excavation is 15 m in diameter and is 2-3 meters deep.

Red feldspar-quartz pegmatite contains molybdenite, green and purple fluorite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite and minor galena, pyrite and monazite.

Large quartz crystals and masses of molybdenite up to 5 cm are found in yellowish sericite-bearing granite fragments exposed by earlier prospecting.

Unsuccessful attempts to mine monazite were made in 1961-1964.
