The Kirazlı deposit, located at the center of the Biga Peninsula, is one of the superimposed high-sulfidation (HS) epithermal Au-Ag and porphyry Cu systems in Türkiye. Ore formation and hydrothermal alteration at the Kirazlı were developed in 4 stages from oldest to youngest: (a) porphyry Cu, (b) re-opening base metal, (c) quartz-molybdenite, and (d) HS epithermal Au-Ag. A high-sulfidation (HS) epithermal Au-Ag ore body, which is one of the major deposits in the district, with a reserve of 33.86 Mt @ 0.69 g/t Au, 9.42 g/t Ag, and a resource of 3.056 Mt @ 0.43 g/t Au, 2.71 g/t Ag.
The Kirazlı deposit comprises crystalline basement rocks and extensive calc-alkaline Cenozoic plutonic and volcanic rocks formed during subduction and post-collisional/orogenic extensional events via magmatic evolution of the Biga Peninsula. There are two main rock units in the district based on their stratigraphic position and zircon U-Pb ages: (a) pre-Cenozoic basement rocks and (b) Cenozoic magmatic rocks. The Cenozoic magmatic rocks consist of middle–late Eocene volcano-plutonic rocks and Oligocene volcanic rocks. The Cenozoic rocks are the main host of the Kirazlı HS-epithermal Au-Ag deposit and porphyry Cu-style ore body. The district contains four main mineralized zones, which are from north to south: Kirazlı main, Rock Pile (1 km west of the Kirazlı main), Çatalkaya, and Kale. The Kirazlı main, Rock Pile, and Çatalkaya are the ore zones hosting the HS epithermal Au-Ag deposit, whereas Kale hosts the porphyry Cu ore body.
