Small extinct volcanic cone, part of which has been quarried for basalt.

Abstract of Pillard et al. (1980):

The hawaiite from the Puech de Vermus neck near Espalion (French Massif central) crystallized between 1 150 and 1 000 °C ; its hydrothermal alteration at about 200 °C developed an association with gyrolite, tacharanite, tobermorite, phillipsite, thomsonite, natrolite, calcite, smectite, chlorite. The solution now contained in the vesicles is of meteoric origin, with a participation of recent waters.
