Santa Creu d’Olorda was an old and large township that disappeared in 1916 when it was divided into the current townships of Molins de Rei, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Cugat del Vallès and Sarrià (the latter eventually became part of Barcelona). Nowadays this name is only used for the Romanesque hermitage located close to Puig d’Olorda. However, Santa Creu D’Olorda is a classic mineral locality, which appear on the specimens of many private collections or museum and refers to specimens collected in the various mines, quarries and outcrops that belonged to this old township, which is now divided into four different villages.

From a geological point of view, the area includes outcrops of Silurian slates as well as limestones from Upper Silurian and Lower Devonian. The latter have undergone interesting overriding phenomena by stacking of klippes, which took place during the Hercynian orogeny.
