The site of an isolated settlement, now reclaimed by dense bush, serving the surrounding "osmiridium" field, near Lake Pedder, south-western Tasmania. It was once one of the world's major producers of this rare metal, but little can be found there now. The "osmiridium" (mixtures of Os-Ir-Ru alloys) was mostly recovered from shallow alluvial workings; the hard-rock sources in associated serpentinites are largely untested. Harris and Cabri (1991) redefined the classification of the Os-Ir-Ru alloys to the elemental end-members (iridium, osmium and ruthenium, q.v.) plus rutheniridosmine (for structural reasons).
