Quartz vein-type ultra large tungsten-molybdenum deposit.
Quaternary sediments unconformably overlie Neoproterozoic biotite granodiorite and late Mesozoic granites in the Shimensi area. The late Mesozoic granite stocks and dikes are widespread at Shimensi and are genetically related to the tungsten mineralization. The tungsten mineralization occurs along the contact between the late Mesozoic granite stocks and the Neoproterozoic granodiorite batholith. There are more than 60 ore veins at Shimensi. In general, the veins are 200 to 800 m long and 0.2 to 0.7 m thick.

The Shimensi tungsten deposit has experienced multiple periods and stages of magmatic activity. The biotite granodiorite formed in the late Jinning period is a part of Jiuling batholith. The porphyritic biotite granite (with porphyritic texture, coarse grained phenocrysts, medium fine grained matrix), fine grained biotite granite, and biotite granite porphyry (with porphyritic texture, medium fine phenocrysts and aphanitic matrix), which successively intruded in the middle Yanshan period, have a regularly refined particle size. The vein-disseminated ore bodies are distributed in the main sections of Shimensi deposit and occur in the inner and outer contact zones of porphyritic biotite granite in Mid-Yanshanian period and biotite granodiorite batholith in the Late-Jinning Period.
