Köppen climate type:
A Hg-Cr-Mn mining area located in the Trinity Mountains subrange of the Klamath Mountains, along Crow Creek, a tributary of the East Fork Trinity River. Named after the princpal mine in the district.
NOTE: The MRDS files contain data which are seemingly confusing this area with the New Almaden area, quite a distance away in another county. Also, the MRDS files present two terminologies for the locations within this district. Some are stated as being in the "Altoona District" in the Mining District data field, while others are stated to be in the "Crow Creek area" in the same data field. While the latter is factual, it conflicts with the Altoona District terminology since the locations are not separated geographically. There is no "Altoona District" listed in Murdoch & Webb (1966).
