An open pit mine working a volcanic-hosted Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag massive sulfide deposit in the Lachlan Fold Belt. The mine was closed in 1998. It was later redeveloped, starting around 2013, by Heron Resources, with the aim of potentially extracting minerals from both the three tailings dams and the underground mine.
The Woodlawn mine consists of pyritic Zn-Cu-Pb ore occurs in numerous stacked lenses of massive sulfide mineralization (VHMS). The main ore minerals are chalcopyrite and sphalerite with lesser galena. The deposit was opened in 1978 and mined intermittently before closing in the late 1990s
Located 75 km NE of Canberra and 50 km S of Goulburn, in the parish of Werriwa. Formerly owned by St. Joe, Phelps Dodge & Australian Mining & Smelting, Ltd. joint venture.
Now rehabilitated; site currently (2019) used as a bioreactor.
Construction of a wind farm has also been approved recently.
The mine recommenced operations (by Develop Global Ltd) in 2025 and had its first shipments of copper, zinc and lead concentrate in the June 2025 quarter.
Nearest town/village is Tarago.
