A former Fe-Cu occurrence/mine located less than 1 mile S of Louisville on the edge of the Liberty Lake reservoir. Originally an iron mine featuring a 2½ foot (0.9 meter) thick hematite ore vein. Started around the time of the American Revolution. Later, it was exploited for copper and achieved a depth of over 400 feet with a shaft to that depth. Employed up to 100 miners at its peak.
A series of shafts, pits and associated dumps extend for 400 meters along a NE-SW trend. The coordinates are for what appear from lidar topo data to be the largest workings at the NE end of the trend.
Please do not add false or misleading information to this location. There are numerous tailing piles at this location not just two; as well as a third older mine. Stuart Herring 05/11/2025.
