Storgruvan, Riddarhyttan, Skinnskattebergs kommun, Västmanland, Sverige
Mine worked on REE mineralisation (cerite-(Ce) associated with “allanite” and törnebohmite-(Ce). More than 5 ton of REE mineralised material was extracted.
The Bastnäs Storgruva (Storgruve mine field) was classified as a “cerite ore type” and thus regarded as a Bastnäs-type mineralisation. The predominant rock type in this area comprises altered felsic metavolcanic rocks, mainly manifested as cordierite-rich mica schists. Towards the north, unaltered marble is present, yet locally containing skarn and REE mineralisation. A quartz-banded hematite-dominated ore is exposed in the southern area adjacent to the marble and skarn zone.
